REPUTTY WINDOWS IN TIMBER DOUBLE HUNG WINDOWS
When you reputty windows, it is preferable to work in complete lines rather than in segments.
Also important is to not allow the new putty to seat higher than the timber on the other side of the glass, avoiding a shadow when looking from inside.
Once hacked out, brush clean and suggest brushing again with a wet brush. In some instances, the customer requests priming the newly exposed timber before the new putty.
HELPFUL TOOLS

HACKING OUT PUTTY IN WINDOWS
When you repute windows, a broad chisel can also be used, but you cannot catch the glass when you hack out. This will mean a trip to the glass shop.
It’s a practiced hand. A rubber mallet adds weight to each strike, and also reduces noise for the neighbours.
APPLYING NEW PUTTY
Knead the putty before using. Using the ball of your thumb, push new putty into the recess, then using your putty knife, seat the putty firmly in before laying off.
Brush your final product, wipe the entire glass with a wet rag, particularly along the lines, then using a window cleaning squeegee with window to clean. Best not to leave dirty, and the putty marks will go hard. A Gem blade below is useful.
