RESTORE FUNCTION WOODEN WINDOWS August 2017

I was recently asked to restore windows for a three storey block of units in Bondi Junction

This was a two week job, August 2017, Bondi Junction.

All units had problems including broken cords and glass, painted-in windows and windows with incorrect weights, causing them to come down of their own accord.

REPUTTY TIMBER WINDOWS July 2017

In July 2017, had a call to replace several old spiral balances and rectify some deteriorated putty and rot damage in several colonial- style windows.

WINDOW FRAME REPAIRS – KOGARAH – June 2017

The job entailed repairing sashcords in an unusual sashcord system, along with general reputtying and paint preparation.

These videos were intended for this particular client, to show her the mechanism for her windows.

A very unusual sashcord system, designed to maximize light and view by avoiding a box cavity for the weights in the middle pillars of the window.

High- level joiners built this system seen in this video, very unique.

SANDING WINDOWS WHILE THEY ARE OUT – KOGARAH

EVERY time you use your sanding disc, you have to ensure it is locked into the drill. If it loosens, it will fly off dangerously.

Ensure it is locked in, EVERY USE.

SANDING WINDOWS WITH ELECTRIC SANDER -DO NOT CATCH THE GLASS.

Do not allow the sandpaper to touch the glass, whether electric or hand sanding. Touching the glass will leave irremoveable scratch-marks imbedded into the glass.

HACKING OUT PUTTY AND USING DISK SANDER – KOGARAH

Hacking out putty is somewhat an art form. What might look easy, isn’t, and it is so easy to catch and crack the glass.

WINDOW REPAIRS – SASHCORDS IN GUILLOTINE STYLE WINDOWS – KILLARA

Guillotine windows slide downwards and disappear into the wall cavity.

1.  First problem is getting them out.

2. Sometimes there is no box cover to access to weight.

Generally, this is due to an oversight in manufacture. This has to be done, usually using a power saw.

3. This is what home-made access to change sashcords where no box cover exists.

4. Tidying up after by liquid nail the cut box cover back in, then plastibond the power-saw cuts; then paint.

5. Painters follow behind to sand and finish.

WINDOW RESTORATION PORT KEMBLA  FEB 2018

A beautifully made home built by the origional owner, one of the earlier buildings of Port Kembla.

As we went along, the owner sanded and primed each sash as it came out, saving a lot of ladder work later on.
